The videos I publish need to be cheap to make. This is the setup I am building on top of Remotion's recorder: it adds subtitles by itself, cuts the dead pauses, and renders the final video.

The starting point
I started from Remotion's recorder, a template for recording a webcam or screen in the browser and editing the video with code: scenes, transitions, themes and automatic subtitles. For months it stayed as it came.

Brought up to date
Remotion goes up from version 4.0.448 to 4.0.534, in a separate copy so the original keeps working. The subtitles move from an English-only model to one that understands other languages, set to Spanish.

Cutting the dead pauses
A script that finds the silences in the middle of a recording, cuts them leaving a small margin, and shifts the subtitles so they still match. The beginning and end are already trimmed by the template, and the original files are never touched.

The first clip, edited
The first recording of the batch goes through the whole process and comes out as a finished video, ready to review.

Making it routine
Edit the rest of the clips, tune how aggressive the pause cutting should be, and fit it into how I publish videos with the voice in English.
It runs on my own computer, so there's no link.
